About The OpportunityThe Staff Accountant / Accounting Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing general ledger accounting activities, and supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. This role requires 5–10 years of hands‑on accounting experience, strong documentation and SOP development skills, and a solid understanding of accounting best practices. Experience in commercial property management or commercial real estate is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Financial Accounting- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, allocations, and reclassifications
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close activities
- Prepare account reconciliations and investigate variances
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
- Support accounting for commercial properties, including CAM, operating expenses, and tenant billings
- Assist with property‑level financial reporting and analysis
- Coordinate with property management teams on financial matters
- Support lease accounting activities and reconciliations
- Develop, document, and maintain accounting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in accounting workflows across entities or properties
- Assist with internal controls and audit support as needed
- Partner with cross‑functional teams including property management, operations, and finance
- Provide support during audits, reviews, and special projects
- Assist with system implementations, upgrades, or accounting software optimization
- Respond to internal and external accounting inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting or general ledger experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and full‑cycle accounting
- Proven experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports
- Demonstrated experience creating and documenting accounting SOPs and processes
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- Experience in commercial property management or commercial real estate accounting
- Experience working with multiple entities or property portfolios
- Familiarity with property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, App Folio, or similar)
- Experience supporting audits or reviews
- CPA or CPA‑eligible (preferred but not required)
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills
