Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and ensure financial accuracy across the organization. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong foundation in general accounting and tax compliance who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple deadlines effectively.
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in the month-end close process, account reconciliations, and tax reporting, while helping maintain compliance with state and local regulations.
What You'll Do
Accounting & Close Process
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
- Support month-end and year-end close activities
- Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready financial records
- Assist in preparing schedules and documentation for external audits
- Research and interpret tax regulations to support internal stakeholders
- Maintain a compliance calendar to ensure timely filings and reduce risk of penalties
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns (monthly, quarterly, and annually)
- Monitor changes in tax laws and ensure ongoing compliance
- Reconcile tax accounts and resolve issues with taxing authorities
- Maintain exemption certificates and supporting documentation
- Gather and manage asset data for tax reporting
- Prepare and file annual personal property tax returns
- Reconcile tax assessments and payments to the general ledger
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 3-4 years of accounting and tax experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and general ledger processes
- Hands-on experience with sales and use tax filings
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems
- Experience with COINS (Construction ERP) is a plus
- Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently
