The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the company’s financial operations, supporting accurate reporting, compliance, and analysis. This role is responsible for complex accounting activities, ensuring the integrity of financial data, and partnering with internal teams to support business decisions. The Senior Accountant also contributes to process improvements and may mentor junior accounting staff.
Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Close Activities- Perform and review complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Lead components of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process.
- Maintain accuracy of the general ledger and ensure accounts reflect proper GAAP treatment.
- Prepare supporting schedules for financial statements and audit requests.
- Assist in preparing internal and external financial reports.
- Analyze financial results, variances, and trends; present findings to management.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes through data validation and financial insights.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and relevant regulatory standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Help strengthen internal controls and accounting policies.
- Oversee or support areas such as AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, inventory, or revenue recognition depending on departmental structure.
- Troubleshoot accounting issues and provide guidance to cross-functional teams.
- Maintain documentation for accounting processes and procedures.
- Identify and implement enhancements to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
- Contribute to system upgrades, automation projects, and workflow optimization.
- Recommend best practices and streamline reporting and reconciliation processes.
- Partner closely with Finance, Operations, HR, and other departments to share financial insights.
- Provide coaching or guidance to staff accountants or accounting specialists.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and corporate accounting principles.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
- Experience with ERP/accounting software such as Net Suite or Similar ERP
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with high attention to detail.
- CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred.
- Public accounting experience (Big 4 or regional firm).
- Experience in SOX-compliant or audit-heavy environments.
