Rimrock Companies is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of Rimrock Hospitality, our rapidly growing hospitality management division. Rimrock Hospitality specializes in the management of economy and mid-scale extended stay hotels, including nationally recognized hotel brands, with multiple new properties scheduled to open over the next several years.
The Financial Controller will serve as a key financial leader within Rimrock Hospitality and will play an integral role in building scalable financial processes, supporting new hotel openings, overseeing accounting operations, and strengthening the financial infrastructure needed to support the continued growth of the portfolio.
This position is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial operations of Rimrock Hospitality and its managed hotel portfolio including financial reporting, accounting operations, cash management, financial budgeting & reporting, and finance support to hotel operations personnel. This role requires a strong understanding of hotel accounting and property-level financial operations. Prior hospitality accounting experience is required.
The Controller will oversee and develop the hospitality accounting team and work closely with hotel General Managers, Directors of Operations, ownership, third-party service providers, brand partners, and other corporate departments. This position will also be responsible for maintaining productive relationships with hotel brands, lenders, vendors, external accountants, and other business partners. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with an operational mindset and is comfortable building processes and infrastructure within a rapidly growing organization
Duties & Responsibilities:Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Oversee the month and year-end accounting close processes for the hospitality management company and applicable hotel entities and provide financial oversight over all entities
- Review general ledger activity, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany transactions
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements, management reporting packages and supporting schedules
- Maintain appropriate accounting policies and ensure financial reporting is consistent with GAAP, USALI and other brand requirements
- Review hotel operating results and investigate significant or unusual financial variances
- Establish standardized accounting processes across new and existing properties
- Support accounting setup and financial readiness for new hotel openings
- Partner with hotel operations to resolve property-level accounting and financial reporting issues
- Lead and support annual budgeting and forecasting processes for the hospitality management company and hotel portfolio
- Monitor hotel performance against budget and identify significant trends and variances
- Assist leadership with financial modeling, new hotel projections, pre-opening budgets, and other strategic initiatives to support operational and executive decision-making
- Develop scalable financial reporting and monitoring of key performance indicators as the portfolio grows
- Oversee bank reconciliations, merchant-processing accounting, cash activity, and treasury processes
- Monitor hotel and management-company cash positions and funding requirements
- Provide oversight of accounts payable, credit card and employee expense reimbursement processes
- Establish and maintain appropriate invoice approval, vendor setup, and payment controls
- Review significant or unusual expenditures and resolve escalated AP issues
- Provide financial oversight of payroll and ensure payroll activity is accurately reflected in the general ledger through review of payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations, liabilities, and labor allocations across hotel entities
- Partner with the HR Manager to maintain appropriate payroll controls and resolve payroll-related accounting issues
- Develop, document and maintain accounting policies & procedures
- Coordinate with external tax advisors & other third parties and oversee state and local finance-related compliance, including sales, use, lodging, and other applicable taxes and registrations
- Implement practical solutions to enhance segregation of duties, maintain appropriate system access for all users and a strong internal control framework across all processes
- Serve as a primary owner and administrator of the hospitality accounting ERP and supporting financial systems
- Develop standardized processes for new property onboarding and system implementation
