Job Summary
The Buyer is responsible for the negotiation and release of purchase orders at the right time, right quantity and within specific targets and budgets. The successful candidate will display a strong ability to use MRP/ERP systems to procure equipment and services in many locations throughout the globe. In addition, experience working with providers of electronic components, electrical harness, HVAC systems is a plus.
The Buyer is responsible for assuring compliance with company policies, applicable government regulations and laws and the highest of ethical standards while establishing sources for quality-conforming materials and services with competitive pricing and timely deliveries. The Buyer will continually seek new and alternative ideas, products, and materials whose adoption might improve company efficiency and profitability.
- Conduct appropriate level of price/cost analysis to obtain the most favorable economic purchase with the emphasis that cost reductions will be critical.
- Secure and analyze quotations, negotiate prices and terms with suppliers, and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Remain current on contracts and pricing agreements.
- Work with suppliers worldwide to ensure supply of quality products.
- Creates reports for cost savings for non-production items as requested.
- Source supplies and negotiate vendor contracts resulting in total cost reductions, quality of products, and on-time delivery.
- Maintain records of goods and materials ordered within ERP system.
- Compare product deliveries with issued purchase orders and follow up with vendors for discrepancies.
- Consistently seek improvement opportunities for procurement process and initiate changes by initiating workflows and work procedures.
- Contribute to the timely and proper payment of invoices by communicating with vendors and accounts payable.
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Supply Chain Management preferred. Equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree required.
- Minimum of 4 years progressively responsible purchasing related experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP/QAD or similar system desired. Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge/experience preferred.
- Well-developed understanding of business principles with comparative, quantitative and communication skills.
- Understanding of ISO standards.
- Strong attention to detail, target driven, working knowledge of shipping documentation.
