Position Summary

Department:
Office of the Dean of Students, Resolution & Engagement-OPS. Compensation: $17.00 hourly.

The Engagement Specialist works to promote the Dean of Students Office and supportive services during regular Market Days on Wednesdays. The Specialist maintains a schedule of Market Days, enlists support from DOS team members to accompany them based on weekly themes, and promotes appropriate topics, events, and related activities. Responsibilities include scheduling, set-up, tear-down, materials displayed and distributed, and interaction during Market Days.

The Specialist is expected to be available on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. as part of their regular working hours. The Engagement Specialist supports campus-wide educational initiatives for the Dean of Students Office by collaborating with each team to ensure outreach, signature events, and promotional engagement across the University and local community. Examples of events include campus safety, substance use prevention, self-care and resilience, and hazing prevention.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a schedule of Market Days and coordinate with DOS team members.
  • Promote weekly engagement themes and campus initiatives.
  • Manage event logistics, including set-up, tear-down, materials distribution, and supply tracking.
  • Interact with students, faculty, and staff during Market Days.
  • Represent the Dean of Students Office in a professional, welcoming, and inclusive manner.
  • Collaborate with teams to promote educational initiatives and outreach.
Qualifications
  • Availability to work Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during Market Days and additional flexible hours as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse students, faculty, and staff.
  • Organized, reliable, and capable of managing logistics such as event set-up, tear-down, scheduling, and supply tracking.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team to promote weekly engagement themes and campus initiatives.
  • Basic understanding of or willingness to learn about topics such as student wellness, campus safety, hazing prevention, self-care, and substance use prevention.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, event promotion, and basic digital communication tools (e.g., Canva, Instagram, email).
  • Ability to lift or carry materials and display items up to 25 pounds and work outdoors during Market Days.
  • Dependable, adaptable, and enthusiastic about supporting student success and the mission of the Dean of Students Office.

This position requires a background check. In conjunction with the University’s policy, this position may also require a credit check. The holder of this position is designated as a "Responsible Employee" pursuant to their role under Title IX. Therefore, the incumbent must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse by or against any student, employee, contractor, or visitor to the University’s Title IX Administrator or any divisional Title IX Coordinator.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place; the responsibility is to report.
