We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Jacksonville team. This role is ideal for a detail-driven professional who thrives on accuracy, collaboration, and strategic thinking. You will play a key role in developing competitive, well-planned bids that drive the success of major site development and heavy civil projects.
What You’ll DoPrepare detailed, accurate estimates with clearly defined cost, risk, and pricing strategies.
Participate in all phases of the estimating process, including pre-construction planning and bid production.
Evaluate bid opportunities through RFP review, scope analysis, and market research.
Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine scope, quantities, and production rates.
Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
Cost Analysis & TakeoffsPerform quantity takeoffs and solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Identify labor, equipment, material, and general conditions requirements.
Incorporate geotechnical data, schedules, and anticipated durations into estimates.
Support value-engineering efforts when appropriate.
Present estimates and project approaches for internal review and approval.
Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and operations teams regarding means, methods, productivity, and constructability.
Work with administrative staff to ensure complete, accurate bid documentation.
Mentor and support junior estimating staff, including takeoff and software support.
Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, bid requirements, and best practices.
Analyze historical cost data and lessons learned to improve future estimates.
Assist in maintaining estimating databases, production rates, and software tools.
Represent Petticoat-Schmitt professionally with clients, partners, and vendors.
What We’re Looking For Experience & EducationMinimum 3 years of estimating experience in civil construction (site development, utilities, roadway).
Experience with both public and private bid production.
Strong understanding of civil construction methods, cost drivers, and risk.
Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
Familiarity with FDOT or regional heavy civil bidding practices preferred.
Technical SkillsProficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, Project, One Note).
Experience with estimating and construction software such as HCSS, Bid2
Win, Bluebeam, Plan Swift, Primavera P6, or Procore
.
