Health and Safety Manager - Jacksonville, FL

Hypower is a leading specialty contractor with multiple projects in the utility and commercial markets.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Full‑time position with possibility of regional travel
  • Manage the safety of company employees and vendors for job sites
  • Assist in enforcing the job site and office safety training programs
  • OSHA compliance and record‑keeping; train and maintain records
  • Evaluate and train on hazard assessment
  • Act as designated on‑site safety representative for high‑risk work and execution of procedures
  • Work with project management to develop safety plans
  • Client relations
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate OSHA, Federal, State and contractually applicable required safety processes, policies, procedures, certifications, reporting requirements
  • Ensure a safe job site and office workplace by conducting programs for orientations, skill training, proper job instruction, hazardous materials handling and the use of protective equipment
  • Assist with fleet safety initiatives and fleet management both on the job site and in the offices
  • Create and maintain safety observation reports, investigate and compile accident/incident reports, and other reports on an as‑needed basis
  • Implement initiatives at the job site and office to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long‑term health hazards
  • Injury incident management
  • Represent the company and employee interest in safety or loss‑control investigations on an as‑needed basis
  • Review health and safety scopes of work for compliance reasons
  • Provide support for effective safety management on site
  • Conduct regular job‑site safety inspections and audits
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective action plans
  • Ensure compliance of company tools, equipment, and PPE programs onsite
  • Evaluate the need for required and additional training
  • Track employee training
Perform other safety‑related duties as assigned
  • Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Assist with emergency response planning
  • Maintain safety documentation and databases
Required background and experience
  • 2+ years of recent occupational health and safety management experience in a construction environment such as power infrastructure construction or renewable industry with a degree in health and safety, safety engineering, environmental health, or related field.
  • 6+ years of recent health and safety management experience in a construction environment such as power infrastructure construction or renewable industry without a degree.
  • Current OSHA 510, OSHA 500, CHST, ASP or CSP designations (combination of 2 preferred). Verification required.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable OSHA standards and record‑keeping
  • Ability to conduct training, orientations and safety talks
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Highly motivated, adaptable, detail‑oriented, flexible, able to work both with a team and independently
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Excel at multi‑tasking, problem‑solving, written, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in extreme environments (hot sun, cold weather, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel to multiple regional job sites as needed
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check (including motor vehicle license report within company standards) and drug screen
Physical demands
  • Mix of full‑time construction job walks, as well as sitting for prolonged periods, driving if needed 6‑8 hours per day and clerical office work
  • Overtime may be required based on job schedule
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, combination of both and some lifting < 50 lbs
  • Wear of personal protective clothing, equipment and protective uniforms

  • Primarily active construction job site settings around the country and throughout the year regardless of extreme conditions.
  • Some office time for training and weather
  • Various noise levels on job sites
  • Stresses induced by changing environment, tight deadlines, high volume of workload and shifting goals
