JAX, the #1 station in Jacksonville, is looking for an experienced, energetic Traffic Anchor/Reporter to be a key part of our news team. This role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely traffic reports across on-air broadcasts while also owning the Traffic, Transportation, and Construction beat. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who understands how mobility issues impact our community and can translate complex information into clear, actionable content for viewers and digital users alike.
- On-Air Traffic Anchor
- Deliver live and recorded traffic reports during newscasts, breaking news coverage, and severe weather events.
- Clearly communicate traffic incidents, construction impacts, road closures, transit disruptions, and alternate routes.
- Collaborate closely with producers, meteorologists, and assignment desk to ensure seamless coverage.
- Traffic / Transportation / Construction Beat Reporter
- Own and develop the station's traffic, transportation, and construction beat.
- Pitch, report, and produce enterprise stories related to roadway safety, infrastructure projects, commuting trends, transit systems, and government transportation decisions.
- Build strong relationships with transportation agencies, law enforcement, DOTs, city planners, and community stakeholders.
- Provide context and accountability reporting that goes beyond daily traffic hits.
- Multi-Platform & Digital Focus
- Create content for streaming newscasts, OTT platforms, website, and mobile apps.
- Write and publish digital stories, breaking news updates, and explainers.
- Use social media to share traffic updates, promote stories, and engage with viewers in real time.
- Contribute to special projects, interactive maps, and data-driven traffic coverage.
- Newsroom Collaboration
- Participate in editorial meetings and contribute story ideas.
- Assist with live field reporting as needed, including breaking news and major events.
- Maintain a professional, credible on-air presence that reflects the station's brand.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
- Prior on-air experience as a traffic anchor and/or reporter. (2-3 years preferred)
- Strong live reporting and breaking news skills.
- Demonstrated ability to produce content across TV, streaming, digital, and social platforms.
- Knowledge of traffic systems, transportation issues, and local geography preferred.
- Proficient with newsroom systems, traffic software, and digital publishing tools.
- Excellent writing, storytelling, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong editorial judgment and attention to accuracy.
- Comfortable explaining complex issues in a clear, relatable way.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage a beat and generate enterprise content.
- Engaging personality with a community-first mindset.
- Calm and confident under pressure during breaking news situations.
