Position: Recreation Assistant (Golf)

Overview

This position is located at Casa Linda Oaks Golf Course, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. The role supports the Recreation Program by supervising special and community events, managing MWR resources, and delivering recreational services such as fitness, sports, and leisure skill classes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service for Community Recreation programs, including checking patron eligibility, providing information, opening/closing facilities, and restocking supplies.
  • Collect fees for tickets, retail, rental items, classes, trips, and other programs; use Point of Sales (POS) and computer systems.
  • Accurately record daily sales transactions and submit a Daily Activity Report (DAR) at shift end.
  • Process customer Internet registrations, initial log‑ins, and event registrations.
  • Check out and return community recreation equipment, collect rental fees, inventory items, and perform inspections.
  • Notify supervisors of any damage, loss, or required maintenance for equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure all rental and checkout procedures are followed correctly.
  • Maintain inventory controls and keep equipment in proper condition.
  • Assist in administering workshops, clinics, and events in a variety of leisure and recreation skill areas (camping, cycling, sailing, backpacking, canoeing, hiking, water sports, etc.).
  • Plan, coordinate, publicize, market, and execute MWR programs and special events.
  • Support entertainment and promotion scheduling, electronic and multimedia tools, and outreach opportunities on base.
  • Activate EEO principles, promote MWR facilities, and provide information on recreational resources for individuals and families on and off base.
  • Follow NAVMED P‑5010 sanitation requirements and handle maintenance trouble calls.
  • Assist in event set‑up, break‑down, and related logistics.
Casa Linda Golf Course

Specific Duties
  • Support the golf program and associated activities on the golf course.
  • Collect green fees, fees for golf lessons/clinics, food and beverage, and other miscellaneous items; manage tee‑time reservations.
  • Process customer golf tournaments and check golf rental equipment.
  • Report damage or loss of golf carts, rental clubs, and driving‑range equipment.
  • Assist in golf events and food and beverage activities; support the Golf Pro Shop Manager.
  • Promote golf activities on base.
Conditions of Employment
  • Meet federal employment suitability requirements and pass a background investigation.
  • Pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Complete a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process requiring two forms of identification.
  • Hold a valid state driver’s license to operate motor vehicles.
  • Accept direct deposit or Electronic Funds Transfer for salary.
  • Register for Selective Service if required;
  • Reside within a 50‑mile radius of NAS Jacksonville or be a relocating spouse submitting orders.
  • Complete or obtain C.A.R.E, Emergency First Responder (EFR) or CPR First Aid, and Food Handler certifications within 90 days.
  • Work may involve standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Be available to work weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the MWR department to answer customer questions and refer to appropriate activities.
  • Keyboarding skill with point‑of‑sale systems and desktop computers.
  • Basic computer operations.
  • Reading and comprehension of rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Basic custodial tasks (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping, dusting).
  • Basic arithmetic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to identify customer needs, resolve routine issues, and deliver expected service.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience.
Education and Experience

Qualifying experience can include

  • 6 months or more of general experience and 6 months or more of specialized experience.
  • Or successful completion of 2 years of study with at least 12 semester hours in recreation‑related courses.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
