The Public Works Department is actively seeking a Senior Landscape Architect. Responsibilities- Plans, designs, and supervises improvements at different sites.
- Manages budgets for large-scale construction projects.
- Plans large scale City capital improvement budgets.
- Analyzes consulting and construction budgets for accuracy and efficiency.
- Reviews design plans for quality control and consistency with design guidelines and safety and maintenance standards.
- Prepares landscape and site development plans for projects.
- Prepares designs and specifications appropriate for bidding projects.
- Manages design services for landscape architecture and construction projects.
- Manages and conducts construction inspections.
- Develops department design standards.
- Collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, and the public concerning sites, plans, codes, and ordinances.
- Prepares and issues reports, correspondence and procedures.
- Coordinates various improvement projects.
- Prepares fee proposals for project coordination, site planning and landscape architect services requested for public facilities.
- Operates a motor vehicle.
- Operates personal computersusing word processing, spreadsheet, database and other related software, engineering scales, distance measuring devices and otherstandard office equipment.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of landscape architecture.
- Knowledge of City priorities, construction sequencing and budgeting.
- Knowledge of design software including AutoCAD, Adobe CS, ArcGIS and MS Office.
- Knowledge of plant materials related to USDA Zones 8b-9b, and native plants.
- Knowledge of Florida Grades and Standards.
- Knowledge of native and invasive plant species.
- Knowledge of Florida Building Code, including ADA requirements.
- Skills in problem solving, analysis and creativity.
- Ability to prepare landscape and site development designs, plans and construction oversight.
- Ability to calculate design and bid requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and work within a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to operate personal computersusing word processing, spreadsheet, database and other related software, engineering scales, distance measuring devices and otherstandard office equipment.
- Ability to prepare, read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Must possess a Florida Landscape Architect license.
Note:
If licensed in another state, you must secure Florida license within one (1) year of hire. - Must possess a valid driver's license at time of application and maintain it during employment in this class.
- Must qualify for, obtain and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification for employment in this class.
- The probationary period for this class is six (6) months.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in landscape architecture.
- Seven (7) years of professional experience in Landscape Architecture, including experience in a leadership role.
- Proficiency in design software such as Auto Cad, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch Up, GIS, etc.
- Must submit one or more digital examples of construction documents, specifications, graphic concept plans that illustrate technical and creative abilities.
- Previous experience improving public facilities - preferred.
