Primary PurposeDemonstrated experience in educating students, with a prior faculty appointment or by way of clinical background as a Physician Assistant or other healthcare professional with expertise in an academic area of specialization contained within the Health Professions Division. Serves as a primary faculty member who is responsible for and actively participates in the processes of developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals and competencies of the program, selecting applicants for admission to the PA program, providing student instruction, evaluating student performance, academic counseling of students, assuring the availability of remedial instruction, designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum, and evaluating the program.

Essential Job Functions- Teaches undergraduate or graduate Physician Assistant course(s) in the classroom as assigned.
- Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
- Present ideas clearly.
- Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.
- Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
- Participates in department, college-wide, and university-wide committees and meetings.
- Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
- Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
- Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
- May manage subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service. Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service. Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
