Job Summary

The Jacksonville University Student Counseling Center is seeking a compassionate, culturally competent, and collaborative mental health professional to join our team as a Counselor specializing in support for non-traditional students, veterans, and graduate students including part-time embedded support in our law school. The successful candidate will provide individual and group counseling, outreach, and consultation services tailored to meet the unique needs of these student populations.

This position plays a critical role in fostering student wellness, retention, and academic success.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

* Graduate and post-graduate trainees as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

* Provide culturally responsive individual and group counseling to non-traditional students (including adult learners, students with dependents, and those returning to education after an extended break), graduate students, and student veterans.

* Develop and facilitate outreach programs, workshops, and psycho educational seminars focused on the unique challenges faced by these student groups (e.g., work-life balance, academic stress, career transitions, reintegration, and identity concerns).

* Serve as a resource and consultant to faculty, staff, and campus partners regarding best practices for supporting non-traditional, graduate, and veteran students.

* Collaborate with campus partners in veteran services and graduate academic program directors to ensure seamless support and referrals.

* Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in accordance with ethical, legal, and professional standards.

* Participate in center meetings, case consultations, and professional development activities.

Required Skills/Abilities:

* Extensive knowledge and good judgment in the application of complex principles of human behavior and student development theories;

* Ability to develop and maintain a strong therapeutic alliance with clients;

* Ability to provide clinical assessments of danger to self and others and make treatment decisions on the basis of such assessments;

* Ability to provide appropriate clinical supervision and consultation;

* Good oral, nonverbal, written, and listening communication skills;

* Ability to understand and apply ethical and legal considerations relevant to mental health work;

* An understanding of the use of technology to enhance community engagement within the mental health fields ethical guidelines.

* Excellent interpersonal communication skills ;

* Ability to work in a multi-faceted environment with crisis situations and with people with emotional problems;

* Ability to work within integrative care teams.

Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications

Minimum Education Requirement:

* Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field from an accredited institution.

* License eligible in the State of Florida in a mental health provision field.

Preferred Education Requirement:

* Ph.D. or Psy.

D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited academic program.

* Completion of a doctoral internship at an APA-accredited site.

* License eligible as a psychologist in the State of Florida.

Minimum

Work Experience:

* Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student groups.

* Required to successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience providing mental health services to non-traditional, veteran, and graduate student populations.

* Previous experience working in a comprehensive university counseling center, including partnering effectively and collegially on an interdisciplinary team with campus partners.

* Experience delivering outreach and prevention programing.

Physical Requirements:

* Must be able to lift and carry equipment or supplies weighing up to 40 pounds;

* Must be able to sit for long periods of time;

* Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person or by phone.
