Job Description

Job Summary

Directs and/or selects, acquires and distributes all instructional materials for use in District schools. Directs and interprets policies and operations of District media centers.

Essential Functions

Directs textbook purchasing process.

Develops and administers $10,000,000 state Instructional Materials budget. Prepares various textbook estimates, scenarios, and budget recommendations.

Supervises and trains assigned staff, conducts performance appraisals, makes employment and discipline recommendations, and coordinates work assignments.

Supervises the evaluation and reevaluation of library media materials.

Prepares weekly order update reports on delivered and backordered textbooks.

Consults with principals and District supervisors regarding availability of instructional materials as subject area reviews change offerings.

Maintains District database of instructional materials for all schools.

Ensures compliance with state statutes on instructional materials purchases.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years teaching experience. Supervision of instructional materials and/or personnel experience. School library media experience.

Certifications & Licenses: Florida Department of Education Educational Media Specialist K-12 and Administration and Supervision or Educational Leadership certifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong working knowledge of school library media using instructional materials that appeal to different learning types
Knowledge of State of Florida statutes regarding instructional materials
Knowledge of District library media and textbook purchasing policies, practices, processes, and procedures
Knowledge of District media center operations
Strong supervisory skills
Strong word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software skills
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong project management skills
Strong presentation development and delivery skills
Ability to manage team activities
Ability to influence, guide, and motivate others
Ability to evaluate and select textbooks and library media materials
Ability to design workflow and procedures
Ability to implement continuous improvement processes
