About the Organization The College Bound Institute (CBI) is a non-profit organization that utilizes a variety of educational consultants with expertise in their respective fields and represents more than 80 years of experience. CBI has a track record of serving over 200 different constituent groups (over 10,000 students) in the past 17 years in regard to assisting students with the college-going process through workshops, cultural enrichment trips, seminars, college residential programs, college tours, and webinars.
CBI partners with local educational agencies, school districts, middle and high schools, and colleges and universities to increase the educational access for students. The primary individuals that CBI serves are first-generation and/or low-income individuals at the pre-collegiate and collegiate levels.

The Part-Time Fitness Trainer is responsible for designing, leading, and monitoring fitness and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of participants preparing for utility trades careers. This role focuses on building strength, agility, endurance, and overall physical readiness required for hands‑on, safety‑sensitive work in the skilled trades.
The trainer will also support participants in developing healthy habits, injury prevention strategies, and safe exercise techniques.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement structured, progressive fitness programs that improve strength, endurance, agility, and overall physical performance.
- Lead group exercise sessions and individualized training as needed.
- Incorporate functional movements and trade‑specific exercises relevant to utility work (lifting, climbing, carrying, bending, etc.).
- Emphasize proper form, injury prevention, and safe equipment use.
- Adapt workouts to accommodate participants of varying fitness levels and physical abilities.
- Monitor participant progress and provide individualized feedback to ensure safe and effective development.
- Inspire and motivate participants to achieve personal fitness goals and maintain consistency.
- Offer guidance on nutrition, hydration, and recovery strategies to support physical performance.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages confidence and resilience.
- Work closely with the Executive Program Director and other instructors to integrate fitness training with technical, academic, and safety programs.
- Participate in program planning sessions to align fitness activities with overall pre‑apprenticeship objectives.
- Coordinate with external fitness partners, vendors, or facilities as needed for specialized sessions.
- Track participant attendance, progress, and fitness assessment results.
- Provide periodic updates to the Executive Program Director on program effectiveness, participant outcomes, and recommended improvements.
- Assist in preparing reports or summaries for program evaluation or grant reporting purposes.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Certification in Personal Training (CPT) from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM) required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a fitness trainer, strength coach, or related role, preferably with youth or adult learners.
- Experience designing functional training programs for physically demanding careers is strongly preferred.
- CPR/AED certification required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, and injury prevention.
- Ability to instruct, motivate, and engage diverse learners in small or large group settings.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Passion for supporting women in nontraditional careers and workforce readiness programs.
- Ability to maintain a safe and professional training environment.
- 4–10 hours per week (flexible scheduling between Monday–Saturday)
- Primarily on‑site instruction with occasional virtual coaching sessions
- Hourly rate: $47.25 – $48.75 per hour (commensurate with experience and credentials)
