Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Career Design & Exploration plays a pivotal role in empowering students to explore career pathways, develop professional skills, and access opportunities that support their career success. This position provides direct student support through individualized career coaching and career readiness programming while also supervising career peers and a graduate assistant, managing the Berwick Career Closet, and coordinating key career-related events.

Additionally, the Assistant Director collaborates with faculty, campus partners, and employers to ensure students have the tools and experiences needed to achieve their career goals.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Supervises team of student Career Interns and Graduate Assistants.

Duties/Responsibilities

Individual Student Support (45%)
  • Provide one-on-one career counseling and coaching, including:
    • Resume and cover letter reviews.
    • Interview preparation and mock interviews.
    • Internship and job search strategies.
    • Networking and professional branding (Linked In, Handshake, personal statements, etc.).
  • Develop and implement workshops and programs that enhance students' career readiness, including career exploration, job market trends, and workplace expectations.
  • Establish structured career coaching initiatives that integrate career development into students' academic journeys.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to embed career design principles into academic coursework and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot career-related concerns and inquiries from students, alumni, and parents.
Supervision & Program Oversight (20%)
  • Lead Career Intern and Graduate Assistant programming efforts to expand student access to resume reviews, mock interviews, and career exploration assistance.
  • Coordinate and assess career education initiatives, ensuring they meet student needs and institutional goals.
Berwick Career Closet Management (15%)
  • Oversee the Berwick Career Closet, ensuring students have access to professional attire for interviews, internships, and career fairs.
  • Manage inventory, donations, and partnerships with campus and community organizations to maintain and expand clothing availability.
  • Develop marketing and outreach strategies to raise awareness of the Career Closet's resources.
Event Management (10%)
  • Support the planning and execution of major career-related events, such as:
    • Employer information sessions and on-campus interviews.
    • Career development workshops and networking events.
    • Collaborate with campus partners to promote career development initiatives and increase student engagement.
Employer & Industry Engagement (10%)
  • Assist with employer outreach and engagement to expand internship and job opportunities for students.
  • Support employer-related events such as on-campus recruitment activities and employer panels.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and student focus with the ability to operate in a collaborative and professional manner with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse university community.
  • High level of comfort with frequent student contact and ability to advise diverse student groups
  • Ability to successfully develop relationships and partnerships across campus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Computer proficiency required, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite,
  • Microsoft Outlook, and database management
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully balance, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment, while providing superior constituent service;
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive material and information
