Position Summary

The Bolles School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Upper and Middle School Choral Teacher to lead a vibrant choral program for students in grades 6–12. This educator will inspire a love of music while teaching vocal technique, music literacy, and ensemble performance. The choral teacher will direct two middle school choirs and upper school men’s and women’s ensembles, preparing them for regular performances, competitions, and community events.

This position requires a highly collaborative, student-centered educator with strong musicianship and a commitment to fostering creativity, inclusivity, and excellence in the arts.

As a valued member of the Fine and Performing Arts Department—renowned for its comprehensive curriculum and outstanding faculty, the teacher will contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives and the broader life of the school community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a choral curriculum that includes vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music appreciation.
  • Teach and conduct middle and upper school choral ensembles with diverse skill levels.
  • Select developmentally appropriate and culturally inclusive repertoire for school concerts and external performances.
  • Plan, organize, and direct four major concerts per year, along with other school and community events.
  • Serve as Music Director for musical theater productions as needed.
  • Organize and lead rehearsals, including some outside of school hours.
  • Provide vocal support for school assemblies and special events.
  • Prepare students for choral festivals, competitions, and travel opportunities (domestic and international).
  • Supervise accompanists, choreographers, and parent volunteers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate student records and assess student progress regularly.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student growth and collaboration.
  • Communicate consistently with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the Fine Arts Director and colleagues across disciplines on scheduling, performance logistics, and interdisciplinary projects.
  • Participate fully in school life, including advisory roles, faculty meetings, and community activities.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in pedagogy and choral repertoire.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or Choral Conducting (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of choral teaching experience with students in grades 6–12.
  • Strong piano skills and ability to accompany rehearsals and performances.
  • Demonstrated expertise in choral conducting, vocal pedagogy, and adolescent voice development.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of choral literature and the ability to arrange or transpose music as needed.
  • Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
