University College Student Success Coach

The Success Coach helps students develop skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success in college. These include academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management, self-regulation, and self-efficacy. Provides academic advising to undergraduate students and builds relationships that support their academic and career plans. This position is responsible for working one-on-one with students to help them develop effective learning strategies and become self-guided learners.

The Student Success Coach will help students improve academically by identifying strengths and weaknesses and creating a structured and collaborative approach to support academic progress.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Uses the Developmental Intrusive Academic Advising model to build relationships with new and current students to support student success and retention - (Intrusive Advising involves intentional contact with students with the goal of developing a caring and beneficial relationship that leads to increased academic motivation and persistence.)
  • Coordinates and integrates initiatives that promote and enhance student services and activities
  • Creates academic plans for students and communicates with them on a regular basis
  • Assists students with academic and career advising, as well as assistance with students continuing on academic warning, probation, or dismissal
  • Follow-Up on Early Alerts by reviewing and processing early alerts submitted by faculty;
    Conduct outreach to identified students, offering support and guidance.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of campus and community resources (e.g., tutoring, counseling, financial aid); refers and assists students in navigating available resources to address their specific needs.
  • Teaches SLS 1122 Continued Academic Success course(s) to provide skills-building strategies to students who have been placed on academic probation.
  • Serves as a student advocate and mentor, acting as a liaison among students, faculty, college departments, and community resources
  • Assists with New Student Orientation, Pearce Summer Bridge Institute, and other summer enrichment programs as needed
  • Works with students to develop and strengthen time management and organizational skills
  • Motivates students to take ownership of their own academic success
  • Documents and monitors student academic progress.
  • Assists students with developing critical thinking skills that promote good decision-making
  • Plans and facilitates Student Success Workshops
  • Provides specialized academic coaching sessions
  • Assists students with focusing on individual goals and identifying steps to reaching goals
  • Assists students with identifying obstacles that may interfere with their academic success
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Will require some evening and weekend hours
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of the University, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge and proficiency in computers, especially Microsoft office applications
  • Strong knowledge of student support programs and ability to make referrals
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail
  • Experience in teaching college-level students
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree with at least 1 year of experience in academic advising or a closely related field.
  • Mastery of proactive academic advising techniques
  • General understanding of students' affective domain and knowledge of resources to assist students' needs.
