JobPurpose
As a Guidance Counselor I, you will help students achieve personal fulfillment by providing counseling services that support their personal, educational, and occupational life plans.
How You Will Impact Education- Assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through teacher comments, interpretation of standardized test scores, and other relevant data, and help them develop educational and career plans.
- Provide individual counseling sessions that address personal needs affecting school performance and career planning.
- Deliver small and large group counseling sessions to discuss educational and career pathways.
- Help students select courses and manage the scheduling process, working to prevent drop‑outs and helping those who do to find alternative educational programs.
- Coordinate enrollment in summer school programs to address identified deficiencies.
- Participate in follow‑up studies of former students to improve services and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Offer emergency support to students during crises.
- Explain college financial aid and scholarship options and help students select college programs.
- Serve as a consultant to faculty regarding guidance services.
- Collaborate with staff on students with special needs or who may have problems.
- Act as a resource for administration on student and guidance matters, providing thorough and timely reports and data.
- Provide new students with orientation on school procedures, curriculum, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Plan and implement transition programs between grade levels and post‑secondary education, including parent orientation.
- Serve as a point of information about the school’s educational program, activities, and services.
- Supervise maintenance of cumulative student records in compliance with state, federal laws, and CSUSA policy.
- Prepare and send college recommendations and scholarship information, as well as reports to employers and other agencies.
- Maintain counseling logs summarizing student conferences.
- Assist in administering state‑mandated and CSUSA assessment programs.
- Interpret assessment results for counseling purposes.
- Contribute to curriculum evaluation and program assessment, using results to identify strengths and improvement areas.
- Establish cooperative relationships and communicate with parents when appropriate.
- Leverage community resources to enhance guidance services.
- Collaborate professionally with staff members.
- Interpret and promote the Guidance Services Program within the school and community.
- Assist community agencies in meeting student needs.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to the company’s mission and values.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, and community members.
- Excellent communication skills: oral, written, interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), and email.
- Attention to accuracy, thoroughness, and continuous improvement.
- Implementation of best practices and positive character education.
- Creative management of disciplinary issues.
- Supportive role to the Principal.
- In‑depth knowledge of federal, state, and local K‑12 and charter school laws.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent).
