General

Summary:

Under the direction of the school principal, the Campus Minister is responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. The role provides pastoral presence and spiritual support to students, faculty, staff, and families, nurtures holistic development through accompaniment, pastoral counseling, and collaboration with campus partners, and also teaches Religion classes as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Collaborates with the principal to build the faith community, setting an example of lived Gospel values.
  • Maintains confidentiality and privacy in all matters.
  • Meets regularly with students to address spiritual, emotional, and pastoral concerns.
  • Provides spiritual accompaniment to students, faculty, and staff, fostering a compassionate campus environment.
  • Offers pastoral counseling appropriate to a Catholic high school setting, sensitive to developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
  • Responds to pastoral needs identified by campus offices and expressed by parents, guardians, teachers, students, or peers.
  • Partners with families to support the holistic success of students, coordinating care with deans, teachers, and other support personnel.
  • Maintains professional boundaries, respects confidentiality, and adheres to mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Listens with compassion and responds to the concerns of those seeking spiritual accompaniment.
  • Encourages awareness of God’s presence in students’ lives and the broader school community.
  • Works collaboratively in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Adheres to diocesan and school policies while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission.
  • Prepares lesson plans to implement and achieve academic goals aligned with school objectives.
  • Integrates Catholic religious curriculum as articulated by the school.
  • Builds the faith community through participation and help in planning school religious and service-related activities.
  • Demonstrates and communicates knowledge of academic and religious curriculum, organizing learning materials to motivate students.
  • Establishes a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self‑direction, positive self‑image, high standards for behavior, and effective handling of inappropriate behavior.
  • Participates in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing and registered member of a Catholic parish community (preferred or required depending on the teaching position).
  • A master’s degree from an accredited Catholic institution in Theology, Religion, Religious Studies, or a related field, with credentials in pastoral care or counseling.
  • Endorsement by the bishop and completion of professional education requirements.
  • Completion of at least 30 hours of approved professional development in religious studies every three years.
  • Completion of the Ministry Formation Program of the Diocese of St. Augustine or an equivalent program.
  • Respect, promote, and do not conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in all actions and instruction.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of a required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years.
  • Completion of the Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
  • Proficiency with computer technology and school-related software.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies, adapting appropriately.
  • Consistent demonstration of a positive, friendly, respectful, and caring attitude with colleagues and the public.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school events.
