Job DescriptionTeacher Starting Salary is $48,700. Additional referendum money is available for the next two years starting at $7,730 for the 26-27 school year; teachers hired during the school year will receive a prorated supplement amount based on the date of hire.
Job Summary
Serves as liaison between exceptional student education department and schools providing direct services for students with disabilities. Provides support services and/or technical assistance to ensure appropriate placement and special education services. Provides input in specific exceptional student categories for proper identification and needed assessments. Assists in developing training modules, program planning, implementation of curriculum, and progress monitoring to measure student progress.
EssentialFunctions
- Provides assistance on the computerized IEP/EP program and IEP/EP development and compliance.
- Communicates with school personnel and administrators regarding appropriate instructional strategies and student performance data.
- Visits schools to observe the teaching/learning process and provides support and/or technical assistance.
- Assists in development/revision of district procedures for exceptional student programs; development of program curriculum; and development of needs assessments.
- Development and implementation of in-service training for teachers/therapists and other staff.
- Provides information and recommendations regarding instructional materials, equipment, and curriculum.
- Assists with staffing students who are eligible to receive services—Gifted Plan
B. Provides information, direction, clarification and assistance to individual parents and school staff in arranging gifted services. - Analyzes the data represented of subgroups to monitor problematic areas (such as over‑representation) and a lack of academic performance, recommending strategies to address such areas. Develops and maintains appropriate program records, data, and reports.
- Assists in design, development, implementation, and evaluation of facilities, programs, and service delivery.
- Serves as liaison with parent organizations and committee agencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
:
Three (3) years of experience in exceptional student education. Experience in gifted exceptional education preferred.
Certifications & Licenses
:
Florida Department of Education certification in Exceptional Student Education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of exceptional student education
- Knowledge of federal, state and district legislation, policies specifically related to exceptional student education operations
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in exceptional student education
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
- Strong time management skills
- Strong creative problem solving skills
- Ability to develop and revise district procedures for exceptional student programs
- Ability to develop and implement in‑service training for teachers, therapists, and other staff
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to facilitate meetings effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, principals, and parents
- Ability to propose strategies and activities to address student academic, behavioral, and social needs
