Position: CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Career and Technical Education Teacher (Welding)

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Desoto Correctional Institution in the Education Department. This position is for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching position in Welding.

Job Duties
  • Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
  • Supervises inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
  • Ensures order, discipline, tool control, and safety in the classroom and/or shop.
  • Evaluates student progress, administers grades and tests, and counsel’s individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
  • Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

  • Recently Retired? Salary Incentives
  • Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
  • Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the CTE subject area being taught; or
    • Possession of current licensure or certification(s) in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate of completion (must submit transcript/certificate of completion) may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

      NOTE:

      Successful applicants will be issued a Florida Department of Corrections CTE Temporary Educator’s Certificate. Applicants will have 5 years to obtain the Department of Corrections Educator’s Professional Certificate. A Department of Corrections Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of the Temporary Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must possess five (5) or more years in Welding.
Background Screening Requirement

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
