Overview

The READ USA Ameri Corps Tutor Leader Program is dedicated to improving literacy rates among elementary students in Title 1 schools within Duval County. By providing book choice and ownership, one-to-one literacy tutoring, multicultural literacy programming, professional literacy development, and workforce development preparation, the program aims to enhance reading proficiency and reduce poverty. Ameri Corps Tutor Leaders play a crucial role in delivering high-quality reading lessons, mentoring peer tutors, and supporting students' literacy development.

They receive comprehensive training in trust-based relational intervention methods and professional development, equipping them with the skills necessary to make a significant impact. The program focuses on building sustainable organizational infrastructure to expand READ USA’s services to new communities. Through their service, Tutor Leaders will help ensure over 50,000 elementary children, over 1,500 teens, and hundreds of teachers have access to essential literacy resources, ultimately contributing to the overall goal of solving illiteracy and improving community well-being.

• Complete 3 days of initial training.
• Be placed at an elementary school in Duval County.
• Deliver after-school tutoring to students who are behind in reading.
• Tutor students.
• Complete paperwork neatly, organized, and on time.
• Work well in a team environment.
• Receive workforce development training monthly.
• Participate in service projects in the local community.
