Position: Program Director I, Johnson Teen Center

Overview

Position Summary:

Oversee and provide direct supervision to the Johnson Teen Center program. Develops and implements developmentally appropriate activities for teen youth programs; supervises staff; interacts effectively with staff, parents, and supervisors; and adheres to written budgets to foster individual growth and development of children in YMCA care.

Responsibilities
  • Completes and maintains necessary records on student and program data.
  • Completes monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports regarding program.
  • Maintains the program’s budget, tracks, and reports on all spending.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with written activity schedules, fire drill schedules, incident/accident reports, and other forms of parent and staff communications.
  • Provides leadership to a team of staff including program coordinators, site leads, enrichment staff, and other staff as applicable.
  • Plans and implements daily, weekly, and monthly activities for students, and holds parent and/or special events that are developmentally appropriate and geared towards college/career readiness and the Five Pillars (Academics, College Knowledge, Positive Relationships, Life Skills, and Positive Identity).
  • Models appropriate interactions with the pre-teens and teens and encourages their involvement in activities.
  • Models appropriate positive guidance techniques that include redirection, positive reinforcement of children’s efforts, and anticipation of elimination of potential problems.
  • Collaborates and maintains positive relationships with nearby schools and stakeholders.
  • Presents the YMCA mission and vision to staff, students, school community and parents.
  • Verifies that the grant milestones for Youth Development grant-funded programs such as KHA and the Child Care Food Program are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for deliverables associated with programs as part of the Johnson Teen Center.
  • Ensures consistent quality programming across all grant-funded programs as it relates to the Program Quality Assessment (PQA), YMCA standards, and any other external stakeholder requirements.
  • Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations, and child abuse prevention.
  • Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests.
  • Inspects physical space to ensure safety, orderliness, sanitation, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Leads YMCA staff on all off-site trips including those that require overnight stays or on weekends/school holidays.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age requirement of 21 years old.
  • Two or more years’ experience in a supervisory position.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: CPR, First Aid, AED.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  • Willingness and ability to effectively communicate with youth.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work in a diverse environment.
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, and high energy.
  • Time management skills necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and implement fiscal requirements.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and implement licensure requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Ability to present a positive image to staff, participants, colleagues, supervisors, and the community.
Physical Demands

This position requires the following:

Seeing, hearing, writing, standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crouching, bending, lifting (50 lbs.), pushing (50 lbs.), and pulling (50 lbs.).
