8th Grade Science Teacher

Position Overview

KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks an 8th grade science teacher for the 2026‑2027 school year. Teachers are assigned one grade level and are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their Principal.

There are four "home room" teachers on each grade level who are each responsible for teaching a core subject. Class size is typically about 26 students per class.

Subjects on each grade level include English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science. Please note within the application what grade levels and/or subject area you prefer. Relevant certification should also be indicated in the application.

Please note that fifth grade is considered part of our middle school model.

• Our current starting salary for a first‑year lead teacher is $50,000

To support teacher practice and their growth, all lead teachers receive individualized coaching and professional development.

Note:

The salary offered does not include any stipends... This role will only be eligible for instructional stipends if they have their FLDOE certification. This offering is subject to change each school year. Terms would be outlined in an offer letter, if issued.

• Bachelor's Degree
• Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Eligibility for Certification in one of the following areas:
  • Elementary Education K‑6 for 5th or 6th grade Science
  • Middle Grades Science 5‑9 for grades 5,6,7, or 8
  • Biology 6‑12 for grades 6,7, or 8
• At least one complete year of teaching experience with a proven track‑record of high achievement in the classroom
• Passing a background check, as required by law. In accordance with Florida House Bill 531, this position requires a background screening through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
• Possesses a deep commitment to creating an inclusive, healthy, and empowering community for our students.

• Florida Reading Endorsement (or reading competency coursework in progress) if teaching English Language Arts
• ESOL Endorsement (or competency coursework in progress)
• Two or more years of teaching experience with a proven track‑record of high achievement in the classroom in a relevant grade level
