Seaside Charter Schools (SSC) embrace the whole child – Head, Heart, and Hands – through an education that integrates each child’s creative, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social domains. Seaside employs an interdisciplinary liberal arts program inspired by Waldorf principles where art, music, and movement are integrated with core academic instruction. Seaside was the first established (and now also the largest) public Waldorf institution in the Southeast USA.
DescriptionUnder the direction of the Principal, the Dean of Students serves as an instructional leader in planning, coordinating, and administrating school activities and programs, student conduct, attendance, athletics, extracurricular programs, and supervises assigned personnel.
Essential Functions- Work with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students.
- Assist in Multi-Tiered System of Support and MT meetings to address behavioral concerns when needed.
- Develop and administer disciplinary procedures in accordance with the DCPS Code of Conduct, Seaside Parent and Family Handbook, and state laws.
- Receive referrals and confer with students, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement.
- Respond to and resolve parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints.
- Develop plans for emergency situations in collaboration with other administrators, staff, and public safety agencies.
- Direct the work of yard duty staff and crossing guards.
- Plan and debrief emergency drills.
- Update the school safety plan.
- Supervise students on campus.
- Monitor students during lunch, recess, passing periods, and other activities.
- Instruct students about inappropriate behavior.
- Discipline students following established guidelines.
- Work with counselors to aid with attendance functions.
- Prepare letters, call parents, and attend meetings about absent and tardy students.
- Provide leadership for attendance improvement efforts.
- Attend meetings of parents and other groups.
- Supervise afternoon and evening events.
- Direct preparation and maintenance for various district, county, state and federal records and reports.
- Follow and adhere to the DCPS Student Code of Conduct.
- Assist teachers with classroom management strategies and systems of support, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid Florida Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience
- Knowledge of Public Waldorf pedagogy
- Knowledge of childhood development (PreK-12)
- Knowledge of public-school requirements
- An understanding of Waldorf philosophy and methodology with a commitment to implementation in a public charter school setting
- Proven experience and effectiveness in improving student achievement in the classroom and school
- A commitment to educational equity and a passion for teaching and working with students from diverse backgrounds
- A commitment to continuous improvement in instructional practices
- Self-motivated and results-driven

- Experience working with parents
