Job Description

KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks a 5-8 Reading Lab teacher for the  school year. Teachers are assigned one grade level and are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their Principal.

This instructor focuses on supporting students as an extra layer of support beyond core ELA instruction. The role involves pulling groups of students, tracking academic progress, ensuring access to blended learning pieces, preparing lessons reflecting best practices and accommodating individual differences, running the special block classroom, providing enrichment and intervention, facilitating instructional technology, and assisting students with monitoring reading growth goals.

Assessment is done through observations, authentic performance, and formal methods, with frequent feedback, parent information, and written progress reports.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary: $50,000 for a first‑year lead teacher.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or eligibility for certification in Middle Grades English 5‑9.
  • Florida Reading Endorsement or reading competency coursework in progress.
  • At least one complete year of teaching experience with a proven track record of high achievement.

  • Passing a background check as required by law.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Florida Reading Endorsement (or coursework in progress).
  • Two or more years of elementary or middle school ELA teaching experience, or small group experience with proven high achievement.
