Part Time Coordinator Of Vocal Performance Department

The Coordinator of Vocal Performance provides artistic and instructional leadership for vocal performance activities within the School of Fine Arts and Humanities. This position directs the River Tones choral ensemble, provides music direction for musical theater productions, coordinates applied voice instruction for participating students, and teaches selected lower-level music courses. The Coordinator of Vocal Performance works collaboratively with Fine Arts leadership to support student performance opportunities, course development, and the continued growth of vocal music activity at Jacksonville University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach six credits per semester in selected lower-level music courses, ensemble-based courses, or other courses related to vocal performance.
• Collaborate with Fine Arts leadership on course development, course scheduling, student learning outcomes, assessment, and performance related planning.
• Direct the River Tones choral ensemble, including auditions, rehearsals, repertoire selection, student preparation, and one concert each semester (fall and spring).
• Provide music direction for the spring musical in collaboration with theater and Fine Arts leadership.
• Mentor and advise students involved in vocal performance activities as assigned and in conjunction with their academic advisor.
• Coordinate applied voice lessons for students participating in approved vocal, musical theater, and related Fine Arts activities.
• Coordinate accompanists, rehearsal needs, music resources, classrooms and performance preparation in collaboration with Fine Arts leadership and the Dean's Office.
• Support student recruitment and engagement in vocal performance opportunities when appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in music, theater, dance, and related areas to support a strong and student-centered Fine Arts environment.
• Maintain a flexible schedule that may include occasional evening and weekend rehearsals, performances, auditions, and events.
• Participate in service to the School of Fine Arts and Humanities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to direct choral and vocal performance groups.
• Ability to provide music direction for musical theater productions.
• Ability to teach lower-level courses in music and vocal performance.
• Ability to coordinate applied voice instruction and support student vocal development.
• Ability to work effectively with undergraduate students with varied levels of preparation and experience.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively.
• Demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching, mentorship, and performance preparation.
• Ability to assess courses and student learning outcomes as required by the Institution.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate degree in music, vocal performance, choral conducting, musical theater, or a closely related field.
• Collegiate teaching experience.
• Experience directing choral groups or vocal ensembles. Experience supporting individual vocal development through teaching, coaching, or applied voice instruction Experience working with undergraduate students in instructional or performance settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• MFA, MM, DMA, PhD, or other relevant terminal degrees.
• Experience providing music direction for musical theater.
• Experience coordinating applied voice lessons or working with adjunct instructors, accompanists, or guest artists.
• Professional experience as a vocalist, conductor, music director, or vocal coach.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to course development, assessment, or performance-based curriculum planning.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility. The Director of Vocal Performance may coordinate the work of accompanists, adjunct instructors, student assistants, or other collaborators in consultation with Fine Arts leadership.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and through virtual platforms.
• Ability to read written communications and computer display screens.
• Ability to participate in rehearsals, performances, auditions, and related events as needed.
