Department Career Services, Student Engagement Compensation

General Description / Primary

Purpose:

The Career Counseling Coordinator will coordinate and implement career development, planning and professional development services, programs, events, and resources targeted to major and career exploration and decision-making to primarily engage first-year students. These programs and services are also extended to second-year students, transfer students or students at any level to assist in the development and implementation of career action plans early in the college career.

Emphasis with tasks will also target offering experiential experiences and activities for students.

Job Function:
  • Assist students and alumni during individual appointments, walk-in sessions, and group settings to provide career development services and resources.
  • Teach students decision-making skills for selecting majors and identifying suitable career options and for developing a career action plan for success.
  • Administer and interpret career assessments in individual appointments and group settings.
  • Serve as primary liaison to select campus partners to collaborate on the development and delivery of programs and services.
  • Assist students with developing professional skills (e.g., resumes, interviews, networking) and facilitate connections to resources, services and events targeting internship and job opportunities.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining contact with employers and community partners to offer career education and experiential programs and activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills to teach students about resources to connect majors to careers and job market and salary trends.
  • Coordinate career education programs and presentations for classroom visits, student groups and new student orientations.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of events and job fairs.
  • Participate in outreach and marketing initiatives and activities, including evening and weekend events, targeted to current and prospective students.
  • Develop career education handouts and resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality in student advising relationships and responsibly manage sensitive student information in compliance with legislative, ethical, and institutional guidelines.
  • Implement administrative and student-focused tasks supporting the department’s overall mission.
Marginal Functions:
  • Maintain statistical records and develop weekly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Available for a non-traditional work schedule to meet evening and weekend programming needs
  • Other tasks maybe assigned as necessary to support the mission of Career Services.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Attend staff/unit meetings and provide updates and overview of accomplishments/activities.
Supervision Exercised:

Supervise designated student and/or OPS staff, as needed.

Supervision Received:

Supervision consists of general statement of goals and objectives; but the coordinator is highly autonomous and is encouraged to develop as many programs and activities as possible consistent with maximum possible support to the student groups.

Required Qualifications

Master's or Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Departmental Requirements:
  • Career counseling skills and theoretical knowledge specifically targeted to assisting students with major and career decision-making
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Experience developing and implementing career development and professional skills programs, workshops and resources
  • Certification, training and experience in the administration and interpretation of career assessments is preferred
  • Experience building campus and external partnerships is preferred
  • Certification and training in the administration and interpretation of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, and other career assessments is preferred but not required.
