Education Coordinator

Description: Contract Position (15-20 hours a week)

Summary: Works with the Education Director and Education Specialist to support and expand St. Johns Riverkeeper’s education initiatives with a focus on growing Junior Riverkeeper after school programs and increasing educational programming and engagement in the Resilient Ribault project area. This is a contract position that ends on December 31, 2027 with the possibility of renewal.

• Schedule and lead Junior Riverkeeper, a semi-monthly after school program focused on St. Johns River ecology and history for elementary and middle school students.
• Expand Junior Riverkeeper by offering and leading the program at additional schools.
• Organize, coordinate, and provide in-person environmental education programming for K-12th grade throughout the Resilient Ribault area.
• Work with Education Director to develop new programs and curriculum where needed (in-classroom, online, summer camps, etc.).
• Develop and maintain relationships with area schools, partners, and teachers.
• Record relevant information and attendance in our departmental metrics and send updates to Education Director.
• Provide hands‑on support and lead additional education programs and events throughout the year as needed.
• Lead occasional evening and weekend programs, such as educational hikes and boat tours for students and families.
• Work with other staff members to incorporate education into all aspects of the organization.

• Extensive experience providing educational programming and leading hands‑on learning activities for youth in and out of the classroom
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diversity of youth and adults from different backgrounds and ages
• Strategic and well-organized with the ability to problem‑solve quickly, manage multiple tasks, and work independently to fulfill responsibilities, goals, and deadlines
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and lift at least 25 pounds
• Excellent oral and interpersonal skills
• Working knowledge of river ecology and issues
• Must have a well‑maintained vehicle in good working condition and sufficient insurance coverage
• Experience using online virtual platform(s) Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and/or Google Meet
• Commitment to the St Johns River, St Johns Riverkeeper, its mission and goals.

Hourly rate: $33/hr
