The Department Chair of Humanities provides leadership for one of Florida State College at Jacksonville's most vibrant, dynamic, and highly engaged academic departments. Housed at the South Campus, with regular collaboration across multiple campuses, the department encompasses a diverse portfolio of disciplines including Fine and Performing Arts (Art, Dance, Music, Photography, Theatre, and Vocal Arts), Humanities, World Languages, and English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

The Chair serves as a visible, student-centered leader who fosters a collaborative and supportive culture while working closely with faculty, staff, students, and college partners to advance academic excellence, student success, and institutional goals.

The position is highly interactive and relationship-driven, requiring regular engagement with faculty and students to provide guidance, support, and resolution of academic and operational matters. Working in close partnership with the Dean, the Chair assists in the leadership and administration of a complex academic unit, supporting strategic planning, enrollment management, curriculum oversight, assessment, budgeting, faculty development, and continuous improvement initiatives. As a key member of the department's leadership team, the Chair helps promote effective communication, operational excellence, and a positive departmental culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, and service.

The Chair provides leadership and support for a large and diverse faculty and staff team, including approximately 38 adjunct instructors, Dual Enrollment faculty, administrative support personnel, accompanists, and specialized laboratory staff. Responsibilities include assisting with adjunct faculty recruitment, credentialing, onboarding, scheduling, evaluations, professional development, and ongoing support to ensure instructional quality and student achievement. The Chair also helps oversee departmental academic operations, curriculum processes, and required reporting activities while serving as a resource for faculty, staff, and students.
