The Jacksonville Public Library is actively seeking a Collection Development Librarian.

This is professional, advanced librarian work at the lead-worker level providing system support through complex collection development and collection management. Serves as person on duty as directed. Work requires an understanding and application of Library Science and collection management theories, principles, and practices gained through an American Library Association accredited program and through experience working in a library at the professional level.

Supports the overall mission of the Library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience. Schedules, assigns, monitors, and reviews the work of others. Work involves frequent contact with co-workers and others requiring skill in understanding people, sensitivity to varying points of view, and persuasiveness necessary to influence behavior, change an opinion, or resolve a situation.

Although the work is standardized in that tasks are covered by diversified procedures, because of changing priorities or different situations, employees have the latitude to consider which of the many procedures or standards should be followed and in what sequence. This requires the use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications. Work is performed in an office and/or library environment.

Due to the nature of library operations, the employee may be required to work evenings and on weekends, and at various branch locations. The physical demands consist mainly of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, and squatting and operates standard and library equipment on an ongoing basis.

May be required to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds and push loaded book trucks weighing up to 50 pounds. Maintains appearance standards by reporting facilities issues and picking up litter on library grounds. The work is performed under limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures, practices, techniques, and/or policies, and the employee plans and organizes the work, determines their own priorities, and the work is reviewed, usually after the fact, in terms of quality, volume, timeliness, and adherence to established procedures and policies.

  • Researches and orders library materials including monitoring and responding to usage trends.
  • Supports the overall mission of the Library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience.
  • Produces and analyzes statistical reports related to collection purchasing and collection use.
  • Researches and recommends products, services, and technologies.
  • Maintains current awareness of industry best practices, national and regional trends, and local service-related issues, especially in areas of responsibility.
  • Manages special projects.
  • Develops system customizations based on customer needs, customer use, and process improvements.
  • Recommends budget expenditures and tracks annual spending.
  • Communicates with customers and staff including problem resolution.
  • Acts as subject matter expert and provides staff training.
  • Liaisons with vendors.
  • Schedules, assigns, monitors, and reviews the work of others.
  • Serves as person on duty as directed.
  • Operates standard office and library equipment such as personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other related software, peripheral and electronic devices, cash registers, copiers, fax machines, microfilm and microfiche equipment, and calculators.
  • Assists with maintaining appearance standards by reporting facilities issues and picking up litter on library grounds.
  • Serves on library committees that plan and administer activities.
  • Performs all work in a safe and courteous manner, including during emergencies.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.
  • Performs related work as required.
