The English Language Program accepts applications on an ongoing basis to maintain a pool of qualified ESL instructors. Instructors are hired as teaching needs arise based on student enrollment, program needs, and instructor availability. Applicants may be contacted when teaching opportunities become available. Employment is offered on a semester-by-semester basis.

An ESL Instructor provides English language instruction to multilingual and international students at the University of North Florida's English Language Program. Students come from a variety of countries and linguistic backgrounds and study English for a range of goals, including preparing for university admission and advancing their professional lives. The English Language Program offers six proficiency levels:
Beginning 00, High-Beginning 10, Intermediate 20, High-Intermediate 30, Advanced 40, and Pre-University 50. Courses focus primarily on general and academic English, with instruction in reading/writing, listening/speaking/vocabulary, and grammar. The ESL Instructor position is a part-time, in-person position in our Day Program. The Day Program operates Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m.

-3:00 p.m., for three semesters per year: spring, summer, and fall. A full teaching schedule is 3 classes per day, approximately 26 hours per week. Reduced schedules of 1-2 classes per day may also be available. Instructors indicate their availability when scheduling, and semester assignments are made based on instructor availability, enrollment, and program needs. ESL Instructors are assigned specific courses each semester but should be prepared to teach across subject areas and proficiency levels as program needs require.

• Bachelor's degree in English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, English Education, or a related field.
• Experience teaching English to multilingual learners from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
• Knowledge and experience teaching academic English.
• Ability to manage a classroom effectively and create an engaging learning environment.

• Prepare and deliver engaging English language lessons using established curriculum materials along with instructor-developed supplemental materials.
• Teach assigned courses in reading/writing, listening/speaking/vocabulary, and grammar across the program's six proficiency levels.
• Assess student learning and provide appropriate feedback/academic support to students.
• Maintain effective classroom management and create a positive, engaging learning environment.
• Attend faculty meetings and collaborate with instructors within the program.
• Proctor final examinations.
• Hold one paid office hour per week.
• Reading/Writing instructors hold one additional paid tutoring hour per week.
• Preparation, grading, and other instructional responsibilities are included within the scheduled teaching hours.

• Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or a related field.
• Experience teaching ESL/EFL in higher education or university-preparation programs.
• Experience teaching English abroad.

This position requires a background check. In conjunction with the University's policy, this position may also require a credit check.
