Under limited supervision, performs and monitors, reviews, and leads the work of other assigned personnel engaged in the installation, configuration, testing, calibration, and maintenance of protection systems, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and metering and telemetry systems in accordance with corporate policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Install, configure, test, calibrate, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair protective systems including relays, communications circuits, voltage and sensing circuits, DC battery and control circuits, electromechanical, digital or microprocessor-based relay schemes, communication equipment, GPS clocks, processors/data concentrators, fault recorders, power line carrier equipment, reclosers, sectionalizers, instrument transformers, switchboard meters, annunciators, electronic tap changer controls, and related equipment.
- Install, configure, test, calibrate, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair supervisory control and data acquisition systems, including microprocessor-based remote terminal units, process controls, communication equipment, GPS clocks, processors/data concentrators, digital and analog input/output control circuits, and related equipment.
- Install, configure, test, calibrate, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair metering and telemetry systems, including revenue metering equipment, analog telemetry equipment, transducers, communication equipment, instrument transformers, switchboard meters, and related equipment.
- Lead the work of other assigned personnel and monitor project progress.
- Provide classroom and on-the-job training as required.
- Modify and check equipment for new and upgraded electrical facilities; revise plans for as-built modifications.
- Obtain operational clearances as required.
- Perform switching operations to connect and disconnect feeder breakers to and from the transfer bus; operate 5 kV–15 kV metal-clad breakers and related substation equipment.
- Operate vital equipment to restore power transmission and distribution circuits during emergencies.
- Participate in system restoration and other job-related activities.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles in safe and proper working condition.
- Comply with safety rules and regulations and employ safe work practices.
- Operate the relay shop electronic lab when required and use standard office equipment and software applications.
- Perform other job-related work as assigned.
- Possession of a two-year technical school degree or an associate’s degree in electrical, electronic, communications, computer technology, or a related field, or successful completion of Military Power Training School in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Computer Technologies.
- Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in an electric utility System Protection or equivalent experience with proven expertise in installation, configuration, testing, calibration, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of protection systems and supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
- Valid driver's license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment.
- Work up to 12 hours per day, with activities including lifting (up to 50 lbs.), walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, reaching, climbing, twisting, ladder work, step‑stool use, kneeling, and frequent typing.
- Perform strenuous physical activity, including carrying, lifting, and setting up 50‑pound relays and lifting test equipment in excess of 70 lbs.; work at heights up to 50 feet.
- Pass a qualitative respirator fit test and operate a respirator without distress.
- Maintain correct 20/40 vision and distinction of basic colors; good depth perception and normal hearing.
