This procedure describes the basic functions, reporting relationships, authority, and responsibilities of the Sr. Design Engineer at S&P USA.
The Job Description provides the performance criteria for the position and states the Job Requirements as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The person occupying the position of Sr. Design Engineer is responsible for leading product development projects from concept through to production. The Sr. Design Engineer will use Solid Works to create accurate parts, drawings, and assemblies of new product designs and redesigns. The engineer will analyze and develop new product ideas, and use strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with manufacturing, regulatory, and design teams to complete projects within given time frames.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Develop detailed drawings, parts, models, and specifications for HVAC fan products using Solid Works, analyzing technical data.
- Assist with prototyping new designs.
- Support shop floor by making design changes through an ECR/ECN process.
- Update MRP systems for new product designs and redesigns, including creating and updating BOMs.
- Perform FEA, FMEA, and CFD studies on ventilation fan parts and assemblies.
- Support special order quote requests as needed.
- Provide technical support for complex customer issues to the Support Services department.
- Create illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications.
- Respond to queries from Sales, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Support Services.
- Work with Manufacturing to determine costs of designs.
- Utilize industry calculation methods for air, sound, and motor equations to improve processes and update company software.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering with equipment, tooling development, etc.
- Mentor and assist other Engineers or Technicians, especially when the Engineering Manager is unavailable.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Work additional hours as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with at least 10 years of design experience.
- Proficiency in Windows applications, Solid Works, AutoCAD, and MPR II systems.
- Ability to write reports, manuals, and interpret technical and business documents.
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Strong reasoning, analytical, and mathematical skills.
- Knowledge of sheet metal design and designing for manufacturability.
- Experience in designing dynamic products and troubleshooting manufacturing problems.
- Experience working with purchasing for component sourcing, especially motors, is desirable.
- Ability to mentor others and respond to technical concerns.
- Mostly sitting, with some standing, walking, and physical exertion (up to 50 pounds).
- Use of senses like hearing and vision for communication and documentation.
- Ability to wear PPE as required.
- Ability to perform essential functions safely and maintain punctual attendance.
Work environment includes ambient temperature variations, dust, fumes, and noise typical of manufacturing settings.
