The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for commercial, healthcare, and industrial electrical construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, NEC codes, and construction methodologies. The Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and vendors to ensure that all bids are complete, compliant, and aligned with company objectives for profitability and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare accurate and competitive electrical estimates for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
- Analyze blueprints, drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates including labor, materials, and equipment.
- Utilize estimating software such as Accubid Anywhere
, and Bluebeam to prepare takeoffs and proposals. - Review proposal specifications, attend pre-bid meetings, and evaluate addenda or scope changes for cost and schedule impacts.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and vendors to verify costs and clarify project details.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals for cost-effectiveness, completeness, and compliance.
- Identify and communicate cost-saving or value-engineering opportunities.
- Participate in bid reviews and presentations with internal stakeholders.
- Support awarded projects by assisting in the handoff from pre-construction to execution.
- Maintain and build relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Mentor and support junior estimators and contribute to a culture of teamwork and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience
in electrical estimating for commercial or industrial projects. - Proven experience preparing full-scope estimates, takeoffs, and bid proposals.
- Accubid Anywhere, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong understanding of NEC codes, electrical systems, and construction practices.
- Familiarity with design-build, fast-track, and large-scale projects.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to walk construction sites and wear required PPE when necessary.
- Experience estimating all aspects of commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare, and military/federal projects.
- Experience leading or mentoring a team.
- Experience with conceptual budgeting and value engineering.
- 401(k) – eligible on the 1st day of the quarter following 90-day waiting period with up to 5% match
