Your impact

At Jacobs, we’re challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world’s most critical infrastructure challenges. As coastal communities continue to evolve, the resilience and modernization of our ports and maritime facilities are essential to strengthening global supply chains, protecting shorelines, and supporting economic growth. That’s where you come in.

As a Ports & Maritime Structural Engineer based in Miami, FL, you’ll join a connected global team united by a shared purpose—delivering smarter, more resilient, more sustainable solutions for our clients and communities. You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of waterfront and marine infrastructure throughout Florida, the Southeast, and beyond. From modernizing port terminals to designing innovative coastal structures, you’ll help lead technical delivery on projects that make a lasting impact.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Jacobs to support and lead structural engineering efforts for a wide range of ports and maritime projects. You’ll have the opportunity to work on both new and rehabilitated marine structures—from piers and wharves to bulkheads, fender systems, and waterfront facilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform structural analysis and design of marine and waterfront structures in accordance with industry codes and standards.
  • Prepare structural calculations, design reports, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Support the development of cost estimates, construction schedules, and bid documents.
  • Lead or contribute to condition assessments, field investigations, and construction support services.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, subconsultants, contractors, clients, and agencies/stakeholders.
  • Assist with proposal development, presentations, and client engagement activities.
  • Manage tasks or small projects, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget requirements are met.
  • Contribute to innovation, sustainability, and resilience strategies within the ports and maritime practice.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering with an emphasis on concrete and steel structures.
  • Working knowledge of ACI, AISC, AASHTO, and seismic design requirements for marine structures.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within one year.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software and familiarity with AutoCAD, Micro Station, and/or Revit.
  • Understanding of building codes and concrete, steel, and timber design principles.
  • Experience preparing construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and smaller scale projects.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a structural engineering focus.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering with an emphasis on concrete and steel structures.
  • Experience in port and maritime infrastructure design, operations, or planning.
  • Fieldwork and construction-phase services experience.
  • Background in the design, rehabilitation, or construction oversight of marine structures.
  • Experience working with port authorities, terminal operators, or transportation agencies.
  • Familiarity with international standards such as Eurocode or British Standards.
