Overview
The Process Mechanical Estimator supports a team of preconstruction professionals in developing detailed internal estimates for large-scale food and beverage manufacturing projects. This role is responsible for engaging subcontractors, analyzing bids, evaluating project costs, and assisting in compiling comprehensive project estimates.
Job Responsibilities- Pre-Estimate
- Participates in estimate‑plan meetings and aids the preconstruction team as assigned.
- Participates in pre‑bid meetings and site visits.
- Estimate Development
- Assists in compiling work products from multidisciplinary estimators into a single complete estimate.
- Ensures the estimating team has the necessary information; if not, communicates the need to the estimate lead.
- Assists or manages RFI lists (subcontractor, internal, and/or owner) as required.
- Determines project‑specific tax and insurance requirements with appropriate resources.
- Ensures clarifications are complete and compiled into a single document.
- Assists with the owner bid form and coordinates with marketing for inclusion in the formal proposal.
- Reviews RFP requirements to determine compliance.
- Communicates deviations to the estimate lead.
- Leads discussion on scopes‑of‑work during estimate review.
- Subcontractor Management
- Builds and maintains subcontractor relationships.
- Helps develop and manage the subcontractor/vendor bid list.
- Ensures only qualified subcontractors receive bid documents.
- Meets with local subcontractors as needed.
- Organizes and leads pre‑bid meetings if required.
- Distributes subcontractor bid packages (NDA’s, RFP, drawings, scopes‑of‑work, bid forms, contract attachments, schedules, site logistics plans).
- Coordinates with operational resources to ensure completeness of bid packages.
- Works with the Business Diversity Coordinator for federal or public‑sector projects to develop a Small/WMBE participation plan.
- Receives quotes and conducts subcontractor analysis.
- Organizes and leads scope review meetings.
- Makes recommendations for selection.
- Post Estimate
- Submits project budget to accounting.
- Participates in scope review meetings, if applicable.
- Assists in subcontractor selection.
- Assists the Project Management team with compiling scope‑of‑work documents for contractual agreements.
- Assists with compiling lessons learned for the precon phase, if applicable.
- Participates in lessons learned meetings at project close, communicating budget underruns or overruns to the precon department.
- Database Maintenance
- Maintains preferred subcontractor database.
- Maintains bid forms and bid packages database.
- Maintains cost history database.
- Maintains estimating database.
- Travel as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor of Science in an accredited construction‑related curriculum (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent) or five years of relevant construction industry experience.
- Professional experience estimating process and packaging mechanical scopes for large‑scale food and beverage manufacturing projects.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex mechanical and process design documents.
- Experience with estimating software (Beck Destini Estimator, FastPIPE, or similar pipe estimating software).
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, engineers, and internal teams.
- Experience with Design‑Build and CMAR (Construction Manager at Risk) delivery methods.
- Proven computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.

Physical RequirementsResponsibilities require ordinary ambulatory skills to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift or move light to medium weights (10–50 pounds). Good hand‑eye coordination and arm, hand, and finger dexterity are required, along with visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read application or form information. The role frequently involves sitting, reaching with hands and arms, speaking, and hearing.
