Transportation Drainage Engineer (Jacksonville, Florida)

This position involves roadway and drainage design, coordination with regulatory agencies, permit development, and mentoring junior staff. The role supports project teams from planning through construction and works on FDOT roadway design and planning projects.

• Design roadway drainage systems, including collection, cross-drain hydraulics, gutter spread calculations, and stormwater management.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, prepare application documents, and apply for permits.
• Conduct PD&E Drainage, Pond Siting, Bridge and Location Hydraulics studies and prepare reports.
• Design permanent and temporary drainage on roadway projects.
• Provide hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater detention/retention design, and erosion/sediment control plans.
• Coordinate stormwater facility design with other disciplines.
• Provide utility coordination and permit development, quantity calculations, cost estimates, and specifications in the final design phase.
• Lead technical tasks and teams, including budget, schedule, quality control reviews, and estimates of effort.
• Author technical documents and provide construction observation as needed.

• Experience with Microstation Connection Edition, Open Roads Designer (ORD) and FDOT Connect Workspace (highly desired).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D (desirable).
• Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in ICPR4, HEC-HMS, SWMM and similar software (desirable).
• Experience with ORD Drainage and Utilities, Geopak Drainage, ASAD and similar hydraulic design software (required).
• Experience with 1D and 2D bridge hydraulic modeling using HEC‑RAS, SRH or similar software (desirable).
• Mentoring junior technical staff.
• Collaborating with senior technical staff.
• Strong technical writing skills.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 10 years progressive roadway and drainage engineering experience with transportation projects.
• Professional Engineer license in Florida.
• Familiarity with FDOT Guidance such as Drainage Manual, Drainage Design Guide, Standard Plans, Florida Design Manual, Standard Specifications.

• Must collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
• Willing to accept out‑of‑town travel assignments.
• Willing to work overtime to meet project demands when needed.

Salary range: $140,000 - $202,000.
