Summary

Materials Engineer – Full Time Direct Hire – Hollywood, FL

Role

The Materials Engineer evaluates and selects materials and processes to manufacture products that meet specialized design and performance specifications. The role involves development of new uses for known materials, work with composite materials, and specialization in one or more material types (e.g., graphite, metals, alloys, ceramics, glass, plastics, polymers, natural materials). Responsibilities include analyzing product failure data, interpreting laboratory test results, and determining causes of problems and solutions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform reverse engineering on non‑production parts to develop production specifications, quality test procedures, and Parts Manufacturing Authority reports for the FAA.
  • Conduct research and development analysis of materials to assist with the Business Unit’s new product development process.
  • Provide technical support to customers and laboratory staff as needed.
  • Assist in the materials analysis process for production parts to ensure conformity to specifications (grain size and flow, abrasive machining, hardness, chemistry, etc.).
  • Develop and write quality test procedures that detail required preparation and testing of incoming materials.
  • Keep current with the latest materials analysis techniques and equipment technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Education

Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field is required.

Experience

At least one year of related work experience preferred.

Other Qualifications
  • Familiarity with material testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with materials laboratory equipment.
Specialized Knowledge or Abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Customer‑service orientation with a high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Interpersonal skills to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong work ethic and timely completion of tasks.
  • Technical knowledge of materials sample preparation, etching, metallographic specimen evaluation, SEM or optical microscopy, hardness testing, grain size evaluation, and related techniques.
Physical Demands

Sedentary work with computer usage for the majority of the day. Some walking, lifting, bending and twisting; lifting up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment

Office/laboratory environment with typical office noise levels; occasional exposure to medium to high noise levels on the manufacturing floor.
