Job Overview
This is technical engineering work in the planning and design of minor maintenance and construction projects. The work requires knowledge of engineering methods, techniques and procedures learned through specialized education, training, or related experience. Contact requires skills in understanding and influencing people and is important in coordinating project activities and dealing with contractors regarding field problems encountered. The work is performed in both office and field environments where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable.
The employee may operate survey and drafting equipment, motor vehicles, personal computers, calculators, and other standard office equipment.

Responsibilities- Plans and designs maintenance and construction projects such as sewer and water lines, drainage, sewage pump station areas, and culverts.
- Prepares cost estimates for construction of proposed projects.
- Reviews contractor plans, specifications and permit applications for adherence to standards.
- Conducts surveys of proposed sites and prepares plans and specifications for construction.
- Inspects projects during construction for adherence to plans and specifications.
- Reviews project disbursement requests and authorizes payments to contractors or consultants.
- Maintains project records and prepares project status and related reports.
- Prepares and acquires necessary permits from local, state and federal agencies.
- Operates a personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, and related software applications.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville Core Competencies.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of engineering methods, techniques and procedures used in the planning and design of minor maintenance and construction projects.
- Knowledge of construction practices, equipment and materials.
- Knowledge of drafting and land surveying methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of algebra, geometry, calculus and trigonometry.
- Ability to plan and design maintenance and construction projects.
- Ability to prepare cost estimates for equipment and materials.
- Ability to conduct field inspections and surveys.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to maintain project records and prepare reports.
- Ability to operate personal computers.

- A four‑year combination of education, training and experience in engineering support work.
- FL Class E Driver's License (required prior to appointment and must be maintained).
- City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification (required prior to appointment and must be maintained).
- The probationary period for this class is six months.
