Job Description & How to Apply Below

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We are developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit and involves developing and sustaining the infrastructure needed to transport crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

A successful candidate will understand fluid systems, fluid dynamics, and compressible flow for space vehicles.

The position works under a senior engineer accountable for helium storage and distribution within the Gas and Thrusters (G&T) team for a Lunar Permanence Vehicle. Responsibilities include design, analysis, procurement, installation, and testing of helium subsystem components and sub‑assembly systems. You will manage valves, bottles, filters, sensors, piping, and other fluid equipment, sizing, material selection, and structural analysis under pressure, vibration, fracture, and fatigue.

Suppliers or internal Blue Origin groups will be consulted for component procurement, fabrication, and installation, and you will also manage the project plan, cost, and schedule for your sub‑assembly. The role will be on the ground floor of our Transfer Stage Vehicle at the Rocket Park Facility in Florida. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities
  • Fluids sub‑assembly design and development, including developing specifications and procurement of components, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred), performing trade studies, and analyzing test data.
  • Interpreting and generating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
  • Designing or creating specifications for fluid/gas components such as solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Developing and maintaining interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
  • Designing and analyzing custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
  • Performing component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
  • Proven understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Hands‑on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems.
  • Developing and maintaining interface definitions between the vehicle and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
  • Hands‑on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with hypergolic systems.
Benefits
  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long‑term disability, 401(k) with a company match up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week).
  • Paid Time Off:
Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company‑paid holidays.
  • Employee eligibility for benefits and bonuses based on the company’s intent to reward individual contributions and enable sharing in the company’s results. Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and subject to change and cancellation. Please check with your recruiter for more details.
