Job SummaryThe Designer V (DT V) position is the fifth level in the Designer career track. It involves creating designs for utility systems such as overhead and underground circuits for joint use, lighting, commercial, industrial and residential developments, as well as gas and generation systems. The role also includes field data collection, storm‑restoration assistance, handling permit documentation and providing support to fellow designers.
The DT V communicates directly with clients/customers and construction crews to progress projects.
- CAD experience
- Power Distribution experience
- Pole Analysis software
- WMS experience (e.g., Maximo)
- Understanding of electrical components
- Circuit knowledge of electrical components
- Advanced distribution techniques (switch gear, capacitor bank)
- Conduit systems
- Advanced knowledge of reliability schemes
- Field and work zone safety
- Independently perform field data collection and project‑specific inspections for assigned projects efficiently and accurately.
- Produce high‑quality computer‑aided design drawings and a list of materials needed for the construction of assigned projects.
- Provide mentorship, guidance and training to peers and newer designers for assigned projects.
- Ensure all necessary communications are documented on projects designed as required by training.
- Produce permitting documentation independently when needed.
- Communicate with clients and lead site meetings.
High school diploma or equivalent, and eight years of relevant work experience, or an associate’s degree and five years of distribution‑design‑related work experience.
Valid driver’s license required.
Pre‑employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment. Motor vehicle checks may be required based on the position.
