The Opportunity
We are seeking a qualified Highway Engineer I to join our Transportation team in one of our Florida offices located in Jacksonville, Pensacola, Tampa, or Orlando.
In this role, you will contribute to the planning, analysis, and design of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects for a variety of public‑sector clients.
What You'll DoYou will support the design and development of transportation projects from concept through final design and construction documentation. You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Senior Engineers, and technical staff to prepare engineering solutions that meet client objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the design of roadway, highway, bridge, and transportation improvement projects for state and local agency clients.
- Prepare geometric layouts, roadway alignments, maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, ADA improvements, drainage considerations, and transportation safety enhancements.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting project documentation.
- Utilize Open Roads Designer (ORD), Micro Station, Civil 3D, and other engineering software to develop design models and construction documents.
- Perform engineering calculations, technical analyses, and design evaluations to support project development.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, planners, and technical staff to deliver high‑quality transportation solutions.
- Participate in field investigations, site visits, and data collection activities to support project planning and design efforts.
- Assist with agency coordination and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local design standards.
- Prepare technical memoranda, reports, and presentation materials as required.
- Support project schedules, quality control efforts, and overall project delivery objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited engineering program.
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in highway, roadway, or transportation engineering.
- Experience utilizing Open Roads Designer (ORD), InRoads, Micro Station, Civil 3D, or similar roadway design software.
- Familiarity with AASHTO, FDOT, MUTCD, and ADA design standards and guidelines.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to analyze engineering alternatives and develop practical design recommendations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
