Safety & Compliance Specialist
TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Safety & Compliance Specialist to support and strengthen our commitment to providing safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible transportation services.
In this role, you will serve as a key partner to operations, vessel personnel, terminal teams, and leadership by ensuring compliance with safety regulations, environmental requirements, company policies, and industry best practices. You will play an essential role in fostering a proactive safety culture, reducing operational risk, supporting audits and inspections, and ensuring regulatory compliance across our maritime and terminal operations.

What You'll Do- Support the administration and execution of TOTE's Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Compliance (HSSE) Programs
- Conduct routine safety inspections, compliance audits, workplace assessments, and risk evaluations
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational and workplace hazards
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, and implement corrective actions
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, trends, and compliance indicators
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, USCG, DOT, EPA, Coast Guard, and maritime regulations
- Support regulatory inspections, internal audits, and compliance reviews
- Maintain accurate safety records, permits, documentation, and compliance files
- Facilitate employee safety training, toolbox talks, and safety awareness programs
- Support emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities
- Partner with vessel crews, terminal personnel, contractors, and leadership teams to strengthen safety performance
- Monitor contractor safety compliance and site access requirements
- Develop and track corrective action plans and continuous improvement initiatives
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, investigations, and recommendations for leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Maritime Studies, Industrial Hygiene, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in safety, compliance, transportation, logistics, terminal, maritime, industrial, or environmental operations
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety programs, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, investigations, root cause analysis, and risk assessments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and reporting tools
- Experience in maritime, terminal, transportation, logistics, warehousing, or industrial environments
- Knowledge of USCG, DOT, EPA, ISM Code, and maritime regulatory requirements
- OSHA 30 Certification
- CSP, ASP, CHST, or other safety-related certifications
- Experience supporting ISO, ISM, HSSE, or compliance management systems
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Work Environment- Work performed in both office and operational environments
- Frequent interaction with terminal operations, vessel crews, contractors, and business partners
- Exposure to marine terminals, vessels, warehouses, cargo handling equipment, and active operational environments
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Occasional travel may be required
- Must be available to respond to operational incidents, emergencies, and compliance investigations as needed
