Professional Engineer / Civil Engineer

The St. Johns River Water Management District is an environmental agency whose work is focused on ensuring a long-term supply of drinking water, and to protect and restore the health of water bodies in the District's 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida. The Bureau of District Projects and Construction is responsible for the design and implementation of projects that meet the missions of the District.

Job Summary:

This is professional engineering work performing civil/water resource engineering design work for the design services section of the District. The position may include, depending on experience, some management responsibilities of technical/drafting staff.

Job duties include:

  • Develops workplans, monitors progress of assigned projects and provides assistance in moving projects towards completion. Prepares detailed design, including plans and specifications for District projects. Functions as the engineer of record for complex engineering design projects. Performs technical review of designs prepared by staff and revises designs as warranted to meet standards and best engineering practices. Responsibilities may include managing activities of design technician and drafting staff.
  • Reviews and offers comments on design documents, including plans and specifications received by the District from external entities and District consulting engineers. Provides technical engineering information to other agencies and consultants on the design of District projects. Communicates with District staff and external stakeholders.
  • General administration and participation in project planning and budgeting. May also include some contract administration duties such as developing scopes of work, evaluating proposals, reviewing shop drawings and review of invoices. Evaluates need for project design and related work. Develops projects in conjunction with the other work units in accordance with the project delivery process.

Skilled in:
Technical writing and other forms of written and verbal communication and presentation; leadership, planning, developing and implementing scopes of work for complex engineering processes; applying analytical problem solving skills and exercising professional judgment to solve technical problems; reviewing work products for adequacy of meeting objectives, application of sound professional judgment and adherence to District and State standards; familiarity with the use of specialized computer engineering applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Arc Pro for civil, or geotechnical engineering disciplines is desired, but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (Florida) in the fields of either civil or water resource/environmental engineering or the ability to obtain licensure in Florida within one year of employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Mostly office environment, operating a personal computer to produce work products with some field visits as required. Field visits would require enduring outdoor environments in uncomfortable temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations.

License:
State of Florida Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within one year of employment. Valid State of Florida Driver's License.

Additional Details:
Starting Salary Range: $77,272.00 - $. Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
