TOOL & DIE DESIGNER – PROGRESSIVE STAMPING

We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Designer with a background in progressive stamping die design. This position is responsible for developing strip layouts, designing tooling, creating detailed manufacturing drawings, and supporting die build and tryout activities. The ideal candidate understands both tooling design and the practical realities of metal stamping production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design progressive and single-hit stamping dies for metal stamping applications.
  • Create detailed die assemblies, component drawings, and manufacturing documentation using Solid Works or Inventor.
  • Generate part drawings from customer prints and specifications, including GD&T requirements.
  • Design tooling with consideration for manufacturing methods such as CNC machining, wire EDM, and grinding.
  • Support die build, tryout, troubleshooting, and production launch activities.
  • Evaluate tooling performance and implement design improvements to enhance quality, productivity, and tool life.
  • Work closely with toolmakers, machinists, and production personnel throughout the tooling development process.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive stamping die design experience.
  • Proficiency with Solid Works, Inventor, or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Strong knowledge of strip layout development, die sequencing, blanking, piercing, and forming operations.
  • Understanding of GD&T, sheet metal forming, and metal stamping processes.
  • Knowledge of die construction methods and machining processes including CNC machining, wire EDM, and grinding.
  • Experience supporting die tryout and troubleshooting activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
Note

This position requires progressive stamping die design experience. Candidates whose experience is primarily product design or general mechanical engineering without tooling design experience may not be a fit for this role.
