Job Title

FPSO Turritella – Marine Mechanical Technician / 3rd Assistant Engineer (Non-Union)

The 3rd Assistant Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the cargo, ballast, offload systems, engine room, and forward machinery space under the supervision of the First Assistant Engineer. This role ensures compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards aboard the FPSO Turritella.

• Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of propulsion and auxiliary machinery to ensure efficient and safe vessel operation.
• Perform routine inspections of engine room systems, including fuel, lubrication, cooling, and electrical systems, to identify and address potential issues.
• Support troubleshooting, repairs, and overhauls of mechanical and electrical components under the direction of senior engineering officers.
• Adhere to maritime safety protocols, pollution prevention regulations, and company policies to maintain a safe and compliant engine room environment.
• Regularly review and monitor compliance with safe work systems and maintenance procedures, including reviewing and rationalizing PM procedures and evaluating and optimizing maintenance routines with onboard and onshore staff.
• Own various equipment systems and ensure robust preventive maintenance plans, procedures, and spare parts are in the SAP Blueprint.
• Support monitoring, surveillance, and optimization of key process and utility systems.
• Support operators in surveillance of critical equipment to process systems.
• Perform ESP duties including shift handover, start of shift orientation, shift team meeting and planning, end of shift reporting, proactive technical monitoring, and management of abnormal situations.
• Perform critical tasks related to HSE case and SEMS compliance, ESP roles, and proactive technical monitoring.
• Maintain readiness of lifesaving equipment.
• Participate in Hazard Management reviews.
• Create local work instructions, site specific task lists, and BOMs.
• Review and provide input to MOCs or variances.
• Perform MIE duties, including performing PMs, routine CMs, support of major equipment break‑ins, and maintenance records management.
• Direct marine maintenance staff activities in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures to minimize risks.
• In liaison with the HSE Lead, obtain permits for work authority and conduct toolbox talks/job safety analyses.
• Prepare cargo plant and systems for startup, including IG, ballast, and the tandem mooring and offload system and associated equipment.
• Isolate and reinstate cargo systems for maintenance, including offload/ballast systems inter‑related with ER.
• Establish scope of work clearly, including briefings, toolbox talks, and presentations.
• Plan and control resource use effectively, including personnel, time, materials, transport, and IT.
• Use communication skills that show leadership, including oral, team‑building, recording, noting, handover, and analysis.
• Make recommendations and improvements in working practices for greater safety, efficiency, and profitability.
• Ensure all assigned maintenance (routine and breakdown) is completed and recorded accurately.
• Ensure that developing critical situations (operational, weather, equipment failure, leaks, fires, personnel) are identified and logged for later analysis.
• Sample and verify that controlled discharges from the area of responsibility to the environment are within prescribed limits.
• Identify and halt unplanned discharges where possible and report immediately according to policy, procedure, and regulation.

Certification

Required:

• Valid USCG MMC with a minimum of a 3rd Assistant Engineer Unlimited or higher
• Officer in Charge of Engineer Watch (III/1)
• Rating forming part of a watch (III/4)
• Able Seafarer‑Engine (III/5)
• Basic Training (VI/1)
• Proficiency in survival craft (VI/2)
• Advanced Fire Fighting (VI/3)
• Medical First‑Aid Provider (VI/4)
• Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties/Security Awareness (VI/6)
• Valid TWIC
• Valid USCG 719k Med Cert (STCW)
• Valid Driver’s License

Certification Preferred:

• Tanker Assist (V/1‑1‑1 Basic Oil and Chemical Tanker Operations‑ Tankerman Assist / PIC‑DL)
