The Mechanical Project Engineer owns the technical delivery of assigned projects and is accountable for the accuracy, quality, and completeness of mechanical engineering work products for residential, multifamily, and mixed-use developments.
The Mechanical Project Engineer operates with a high degree of independence and judgment, managing multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with architects, builders, structural engineers, contractors, developers, and internal project teams to deliver efficient, code-compliant mechanical solutions.

Key Responsibilities Technical Execution & Accountability- Own the mechanical engineering execution, accuracy, and quality of deliverables for assigned projects.
- Design and coordinate mechanical systems, including HVAC, ventilation, exhaust, and related building systems for residential, multifamily, and mixed-use developments.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, specifications, construction documents, and technical reports.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, energy codes, accessibility requirements, and industry standards.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, civil, and construction teams to ensure constructability and project success.
- Evaluate project requirements and develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Serve as a technical resource for complex or non-standard engineering challenges.
- Conduct field visits, review existing conditions, and support construction administration activities as needed.
- Review contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and proposed field modifications.
- Sign and seal engineering documents as required and permitted by licensure.
- Manage engineering workflow and technical deliverables across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Develop project schedules and coordinate engineering activities to meet deadlines and client expectations.
- Identify project risks, constraints, and potential issues early and propose effective solutions.
- Participate in project planning meetings and support overall project execution.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and engineering records.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within scope, and in accordance with company quality standards.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for mechanical engineering matters with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with project managers and leadership to align engineering execution with project objectives.
- Support business development efforts by providing technical input on proposals, estimates, and project pursuits.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsiveness and professionalism.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineers and designers.
- Review the work of team members to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Promote best practices, continuous improvement, and technical excellence within the engineering team.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of internal standards, processes, and tools.
- Demonstrate a builder mentality and an interest in helping expand Apex Technology's mechanical engineering capabilities.
- Support the firm's long-term strategy of growing its presence in commercial and multidisciplinary engineering services.
- This role offers a clear path for increased leadership and technical responsibility as Apex Technology continues to expand its mechanical engineering capabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive mechanical engineering experience.
- Experience designing mechanical systems for residential, multifamily, and mixed-use projects.
