Mechanical Professional Engineer (PE) Department Manager

Insight Global is currently seeking a Mechanical Professional Engineer (PE) to join a client in the industrial engineering services industry as the Department Manager for Mechanical Engineering. This role is divided between mechanical engineering and design oversight (40%), project design supervision and department leadership (30%), project management (20%), and business development (10%). On a daily basis, the engineer will lead and perform mechanical design work including equipment specifications, piping system design, code compliance reviews, and engineering oversight for projects across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia.

The individual will guide and review work completed by designers and engineers while coordinating closely with civil, structural, electrical, and process disciplines to ensure successful project execution. Responsibilities include developing project work plans, conducting field walks and site assessments, reviewing existing plant conditions, supporting procurement activities, coordinating with vendors and contractors, and ensuring designs meet client objectives, budget requirements, and industry standards.

The engineer will also manage project scope, schedules, staffing workloads, performance evaluations, and departmental operations across multiple office locations. Additionally, this person will support business development efforts through client engagement, proposal development, estimating activities, and maintaining long-term relationships with industrial clients.
